President - Greg Harkrader - Kansas Highway Patrol
Greg Harkrader joined the Kansas Highway Patrol in 1999 after obtaining Bachelor of Science degrees in Criminology and Social Science from Kansas State University. Following the completion of the KHP training academy in Salina Kansas, Harkrader was transferred to Wichita, Kansas Troop F-Sedgwick County. In 2004, Harkrader was promoted/reallocated to Trooper II. In 2005, Harkrader was promoted to Lieutenant and was transferred to Manhattan, Kansas as a Field Supervisor in Troop C. In December, 2019 Harkrader was promoted and transferred to Troop C HQ in Salina, Kansas where he currently serves as the Troop Administrative Lieutenant. Harkrader joined the KHP Special Response Team as a Crisis Negotiator in 2001. A 25-year veteran in law enforcement, LT Harkrader started his career in his hometown of Lyons, Kansas. He served as a Deputy Sheriff for the Rice County Sheriff’s Department from 1995 to 1999. Harkrader has been a member of the Kansas Association of Hostage Negotiators since 2001 and served as a Trustee from 2003-2005 before taking over the Treasurer’s duties in 2008 and elected as KAHN President in January, 2020. .
Vice President - Courtney Giron - Olathe Police Department
Courtney Giron joined the Olathe, Kansas Police Department in 1999 as a police officer. Courtney has held the positions of Patrol Officer, Gang officer, FTO, Street Impact Unit and Narcotics detective. Courtney was promoted to Patrol Supervisor in 2013 and currently supervises the departments Canine Unit. Courtney joined the Olathe Hostage Crisis Negotiation Team in 2009 and is currently the co- team leader.
Secretary - Assistant SORT Team Commander Candita Smith - Kansas Department of Corrections
Corrections Counselor Candita Smith began her career with the Kansas Department of Corrections at the Ellsworth Correctional Facility (ECF) in 2001. She has held the positions of Corrections Officer and Corrections Specialist. Smith served as a negotiator on the Crisis Resolution Team (CRT) on the Special Operations and Response Team (SORT). She is currently a Corrections Counselor and is the Assistant Commander for the CRT on the SORT. Smith is an ECF Staff Development Faculty Member, a certified Trainer of Trainers, an Offender Workforce Development Specialist, and supervises the Canine Assistance Rehabilitation Education and Services (CARES) Dog Program. She is also a member of the Women's Round Table Panel, during Corrections Officer Basic Training. Smith is a regular at the Rocky Mountain Hostage Negotiators Conference and is an active board member for 2016.
Treasurer - Trooper Matt Malo - Kansas Highway Patrol
Matt Malo is a Trooper with the Kansas Highway Patrol and a Crisis Negotiator assigned to the patrol's Special Response Team. Matt was elected to Treasurer in January, 2020.
